I was just talking with my brother about this idea of how hard it is to keep Jesus focus. It definitely is. I think that it is impossible unless we separate ourselves from the world. Being in the world but not of it. For example, if we are watching the same overt sexual and violent content and listening the same smut as the world can we really say we are not of the world? I have counseled many men and woman for many years about walking deeper with God and one of the first things I ask them to try is only listening to Christen music for 30 days. Most of the time, those of them that are really interested in God end up never going back to other music. I have seen this time and time again and usually these people go on to removing prime time TV from their lives and only watching things that they have screened for smut. I do not believe we can be not of this world without taking these steps. I have also found that taking these steps makes staying in Jesus infinity easier. We are talking about a deeper relationship with God through acting on our faith in Jesus Christ. Be careful that no one preaches to you that you cannot watch TV or listen to music, this is not about do’s and do not. This is about walking in an intimate relationship with God. Just think about what it means if you desire to enjoy the same ungodly content as the world? How can you enjoy what God hates and have a deep relationship with God? These concepts are incompatible. Jesus said that you will either server him or the world. If you serve the world, you better be praying he does not say to you on that day that He never knew you. Billy Graham’s grandson, Tullian Tchividjian, said that the ones that seek to serve God the most are those that understand our works have nothing to do with our salvation. So whom do you serve and why?
Think about that.
Aaron.
